About Daily Sanctum

What it is

Daily Sanctum gives you one piece of the Catholic tradition each day — a saint, a prayer, a word from the Church Fathers, a work of sacred art — and puts a library behind it for the days you want to go further.

That order matters. Most of what the app holds is not on the first screen, on purpose. Opening it should take a few quiet minutes, not present a homework list. One notification arrives in the morning. There is nothing else to keep up with: no streaks, no scores, no record of the days you missed.

The library

Behind the day sit the Prayer Book — the Rosary, the Divine Office, and the traditional prayers of the Church, many of them carrying their original Latin beside the English — the liturgical calendar, and ten sections of reading under Learn: Catechesis, Questions, Quotes, History, Sacred Art, Saints, Sacred Music, Symbols & Liturgy, Scripture Explorer, and Eastern Tradition.

All of it is open from the first day. Nothing is reserved, sampled, or unlocked later.

Two traditions

The app is Catholic first. That is what most of the content is, and it is what the daily piece is drawn from.

Alongside it, an Eastern Tradition section opens the prayers and devotions of the Christian East — the Jesus Prayer, the Akathist and others — in their original Greek. The reading sections carry a filter for Catholic, Orthodox, or what the two traditions hold in common, so you can read from whichever you came for.

This is offered as an open door rather than a claim to represent both traditions equally. An Orthodox reader will find real content here, and will also find that the app was built from the Latin West outward.

Where the content comes from

• Prayers and liturgical texts — traditional texts and public-domain translations. Where a prayer has a source worth naming, the app names it.
• Sacred art — paintings, icons and mosaics in the public domain, with commentary written for the app.
• Lives of the saints — compiled from traditional hagiography and historical sources.
• The Church Fathers — quotations given with their author, their approximate date, and the Scripture behind them, so a line can be followed back rather than taken on trust.

Errors get found. If you spot one — a mistranslation, a misattribution, a prayer missing part of its text — write to us. Corrections of exactly that kind have gone into recent releases.

Free

The whole app is free. There is no subscription, no in-app purchase, no premium tier, and no trial that ends.

Earlier versions of Daily Sanctum were built around a paid tier, and this website described one for longer than it should have. That is gone. What you download is the complete app.

What was removed

Recent versions dropped the habit tracker, the gratitude journal, and prayer streaks. They pulled in the opposite direction from what the app is for: they measured a prayer life and gave you a number to protect.

If you used them, that loss is real and we're sorry for it. It was still the right call for the app.

Independence

Daily Sanctum is an independent app. It is not officially affiliated with, endorsed by, or produced under the authority of any church, diocese, order, or religious organisation. Nothing in it should be taken as an official text of the Church.
